So, what's the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin like? It's a premier department in the nation, and is always striving to become better. The department's five-year goal is "to be, and to be recognized as being, in the top five public Mechanical Engineering Departments," and we are well on our way to achieving that goal.
Through the PROCEED Program, the department works to tie all of the undergrad experiences to real-world engineering. This program brings real experience to the undergraduates through the cooperation of various corporations.
The areas of study in the department are varied. In addition to the traditional areas of Thermal/Fluid and Mechanical Systems and Design, students in this department can study Materials Science, Biomedical/Biomechanical Engineering, Nuclear and Radiation Science, and other disciplines. A graduate program in Operations Research & Industrial Engineering is housed and affiliated with the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
