Research/Teaching Interests

Dr. Barnes specializes in applied probability and statistical analysis, and solving large-scale scheduling and routing problems in manufacturing and logistics. He has served on the Cockrell School of Engineering faculty since 1974. Dr. Barnes has published more than 70 technical articles and has authored or edited nine books..

  1. Landscape theory in optimization.
  2. Group theoretic metaheuristic search.
  3. Heuristic methods of combinatorial optimization applied to military logistics problems, manufacturing engineering problems and species conservation.
  4. Applied probability and statistics.
