Groups and Professional Societies in Operations Research / Industrial Engineering

The Operations Research / Industrial Engineering Group, OR/IE, is a major technical area within the Mechanical Engineering Department at The University of Texas at Austin. This area has been teaching and conducting research for many years. The faculty do research across many fields. Undergraduate students take many introductory and technical courses taught by OR/IE faculty. Graduate students also take courses taught by OR/IE faculty, as well as work in the Department and research labs as research and teaching assistants.

Current and prospective undergraduate students should become familiar with the Undergraduate Office. Likewise, graduate students should be acquainted with the Graduate Office. Each of these Departmental offices are located on the 5th floor of the ETC building and can help with all issues related to your experience here.

INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERS (IIE): IIE is the world's largest professional membership society dedicated solely to the support of the industrial engineering profession and individuals involved with improving quality and productivity.

INSTITUTE FOR OPERATIONS RESEARCH AND THE MANAGEMENT SCIENCES (INFORMS):
The Austin Chapter of INFORMS
is dedicated to providing the means for professional development, social interaction, and public service within the Operations Research and Management Science community of Austin. The chapter assists members in maintaining a close, regular association with professional colleagues and serves the larger community through local public outreach, education, and career development programs.

The UT Student Chapter of INFORMS is a self-governing part of INFORMS that serves the interests of OR, MS and IE students at The University of Texas at Austin. Within the Operations Research and Industrial Engineering Program, the chapter is the voice of the student body.

ENGINEERING STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS: Fraternal organizations, honor societies, and clubs that are of particular interest to Mechanical Engineering students at the University of Texas at Austin.

STUDY GROUPS - Study groups are usually informal and led by students interested in studying particular subjects, classes, or projects. There is no formal listing of these groups. For infomation please check with your instructor or Area Administrative Assistant.
