The next meeting of the External Advisory Committee is April 6-7, 2006. Members may download the agenda in Adobe PDF format.

The External Advisory Committee, composed of 18-21 members, meets once each semester for one and a half days. During this time the External Advisory Committee hears reports from faculty and students, inspects Instructional and lab facilities, and visits informally with students. During their three-year term each committee member learns about curricula development, the financial structure of the Mechanical Engineering Department, and of the department's long range needs and plans. Committee members also hear presentations from the Dean and are made aware of the Cockrell School of Engineering's activities.

EAC Primary Objectives
  1. To promote teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
  2. To promote excellence in graduate student and faculty research.
  3. To assist in the recruitment of outstanding undergraduate and graduate students.
  4. To advise the faculty and the undergraduate and graduate students of the professional skills expected of B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. graduates hired in industry, business, and government.
  5. To assist the department in interactions with the Dean, interactions with the University administration, appropriate fund-raising, and promotional activities.
  6. To assist the department in providing public service to the State of Texas and its citizens.

Mechanical Engineering faculty receive feedback from the External Advisory Committee regarding the quality and relevance of UT engineering programs to contemporary industrial needs and emerging and long range industrial trends. Students (both undergraduate and graduate) receive considerable information concerning job opportunities in various industrial sectors as well as interviewing advice. After serving on the Departmental External Advisory Committee, members will have an improved understanding of the inner workings of the University and thus will be better able to represent UT within their companies.
