External Advisory Committee
The Mechanical Engineering External Advisory Committee (EAC) is a group of dedicated industry representatives and corporate partners, who actively support the strategic objectives and goals of the Mechanical Engineering department at The University of Texas at Austin. In turn, they provide the department with valuable input concerning current and future trends in industry, resources for research and development, industry interfaces and exchanges, recruitment opportunities and departmental promotion.
Overview
- The External Advisory Committee provides a means for the faculty to learn more about the technical, business and professional needs of industry and government.
- The External Advisory Committee (EAC) provides a direct path of communication between the suppliers of trained engineering professionals and the customers for these professionals.
Why the EAC?
- The Cockrell School of Engineering seeks to continually improve the quality of teaching, research, and management of their operations.
- One important method to aid in this improvement is to seek the advice and consultation of professionals in industry, government, and academia.
- The formal venue for this endeavor at the department level is the formation of a departmental External Advisory Committee (EAC) for each academic department in the Cockrell School of Engineering.
- The EAC acts as a formal conduit between graduate and undergraduate students filtering comments related to curriculum and university operating procedures.
- Similarly, the EAC can provide to students their perspectives on the needs, trends, and opportunities in industry, business and government.
EAC Vision Statement
- The EAC actively assists the Mechanical Engineering department in the education of superior students prepared to meet the needs of industry. As stakeholders of the process, the EAC will provide written feedback on the curriculum and the progress of the Strategic Plan implementation. The EAC members will be recognized as Ambassadors of the ME Department in the community of engineers and Texas Exes.
EAC Primary Objectives
- To promote teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
- To promote excellence in graduate student and faculty research.
- To assist in the recruitment of outstanding undergraduate and graduate students.
- To advise the faculty and the undergraduate and graduate students of the professional skills expected of BS, MS and PhD graduates hired in industry, business, and government.
