GENERAL OBSERVATIONS FOLLOWING REVIEW BY EPIC:
- Many faculty are moving towards delivering lectures using Powerpoint slide shows, PDF files, and other
forms of computer projections in an attempt to move away from the "chalk and talk" lecture format (
Barr,
Biegalski,
Bryant,
Howell,
Kutanoglu,
Shi,
Taleff).
- Faculty are using the UT Blackboard and other website resources to deliver instructional material that
support classroom activities (
Bourell,
Bryant,
Fahrenthold,
Pryor).
- Faculty are re-designing their exam sequence and testing procedures, including giving take home
exams, which seem to be working better (
Beaman,
Howell,
Popova,
Rabenberg).
- Faculty are using student discussion groups and bringing in "real-life" examples, news clippings, and other
forms of social context to broaden the learning experience in the classroom (
Ellzey,
Hall,
Hasenbein,
Kutanoglu,
Wheat).
- Several faculty commented on classroom involvement in major curriculum reform efforts like
PROCEED and VaNTH (
Schmidt,
Rabenberg,
Barr).
