SUSAN PONDER
ME STAFF AWARD RECIPIENT, SPRING 2000:
|
|
The Mechanical Engineering Department's Staff Excellence Award is granted on the bases
of Productivity (which includes quality and quantity of work, meeting deadlines,
performance consistency, and accomplishment), Advancing of Department Morale (including
being a team player, being helpful, having a positive attitude, cooperating for the
benefit of both internal and external customers), and Risk-taking/Innovating (such
as taking on responsibility, showing initiative, and going above and beyond specific
job duties). No one has consistently embodied these principles better than Susan Ponder.

|
Sue works with all strata of the department in a highly technical capacity in the ME Department
Information Technology Group.
She interacts with students as both a lab manager and supervisor of student
employees in the graduate and graphics computer labs. This involves running
cutting-edge servers, maintaining desktop computers, and being a resident
expert and a wide variety of specialized software applications. Instructors
rely on her for assistance with technical classes, supporting computers and
software, and providing the kind of sophisticated know-how that keeps their
computer labs running.

Sue works with the department staff in a variety of ways, from assistance with projects to serving on
committees to desktop support.
|

Ahh! The most important part of any
ceremony - cutting the cake!
|
Sue's nominators really summed up her qualifications for this award: "... I
find her work ethic to be absolutely superb. She also has a genuine concern
for the students, and is readily available and very helpful." "... Sue is a
very loyal member of our staff working in the computer support area of the
ME Department. She has important responsibilities in the Department, and she
has always attended to those responsibilities in a timely and professional
manner." "... Sue is very conscientious, organized, methodical, thoughtful,
and timely. She is an independent worker who takes initiative when problems
arise and handles crisis management well ..."
|
|
The overwhelming support for her work in the computer labs and in support of
all the faculty and staff computers in the department make her an invaluable
and much appreciated member of our staff.
