DON ARTIESCHOUFSKY
ME STAFF AWARD RECIPIENT, SPRING 2001:
|
|
The Spring 2001 Departmental Staff Excellence Award was presented to
Don Artieschoufsky. In addition to his duties as supervisor of the shop
personnel, he teaches classes, assists with faculty and student projects, and takes
care of a hundred other issues around the Department. The Award is based upon three
criteria: Productivity (which includes quality and quantity of work, meeting deadlines,
performance consistency, and accomplishment), Advancing of Department Morale (including
being a team player, being helpful, having a positive attitude, cooperating for the
benefit of both internal and external customers), and Risk-taking/Innovating (such
as taking on responsibility, showing initiative, and going above and beyond specific
job duties). Don meets and surpasses these standards on a daily basis. He truly
represents the best of the staff in our Department. Below are some testimonials to
Don's work here in M.E.

|
Peggy Berry, who nominated Don and spoke on his behalf, put it this way:
"Don makes things happen. ... He helps us move things, he helps us with
inventory and surplus equipment, he helps us move in our new furniture,
he helps us with receiving of large and small packages, he helps us get
chemicals removed, he helps us with fire drills, he helps us get the AC
fixed, or the plumbing, or the elevators, etc., etc., etc. In short, I
think it's amazing the number and variety of things that he helps us
with, not to mention the help tht he is giving to all his other customers
at the same time."

"Don wears so many hats in this department, you'd think he was making a
fashion statement! ... Don has one of the heaviest workloads and most
demanding positions in the department. ... He wears his commitment to
customer service on his sleeve and anyone who works with Don knows that
he is absolutely genuine about this." - Jac Erengil, ME Executive Assistant.

Peggy Berry introduces Don.
|
Don's quick wit and good sense of humor help advance the morale of everyone
he has contact with. His vast knowledge of machine shop practices and his
experience help him to innovate new ideas to streamline the manufacturing
process in order to deliver better products to the customers. ... Don's
excellent productivity and good reputation have brought work into the M.E.
Machine Shop from other UT Departments as well as from miles away." -
John Pedracine, Machinist and Assistant Shop Manager, M.E. Machine Shop.
|
|
"I think Don truly deserves this award. he goes out of his way to help
the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) with our projects. And he cares
about our projects and how well we did in our competition." - John Chung,
UT SAE member.
|
|
"Don is passionate about what he teaches. I felt like he really wanted us
to understand why knowledge about the machine shop was important. Every
time I went to lecture, Don was excited about his topic, and always made
sure that the class knew how the material would apply to real world
situations. ... He covered geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in class,
and instead of requiring the class to buy an extra book, he bought one for
each of us." - Michael Yu, M.E. student, speaking about
ME 350 (Machine Tool Operations for Engineers), a class that Don teaches for the Department.

A surprised Don says a few words.

|
"Don's persistence, hard work, sound management, and attention to detail
have made it possible for us to continue running our undergraduate materials
laboratories over the past two years, despite numerous difficulties. Don
has been a key player in putting these laboratories onto a sound footing
for the future. ... In this, he has been extremely important to the
education of our students." -
Eric Taleff, ME Faculty.
