BECKY HARRISON-RAY
ME STAFF AWARD RECIPIENT, SPRING 2003:
|

The Spring 2003 Departmental Staff Excellence Award was presented to
Becky Harrison-Ray. Becky serves as the Administrative Coordinator of the ME
Senior Design Projects Program, where she tackles the immense administrative, financial, and student-related
activities of students and their faculty/corporate sponsors. The Award is based upon three criteria: Productivity
(which includes quality and quantity of work, meeting deadlines, performance consistency, and
accomplishment), Advancing of Department Morale (including being a team player, being helpful,
having a positive attitude, cooperating for the benefit of both internal and external customers),
and Risk-taking/Innovating (such as taking on responsibility, showing initiative, and going
above and beyond specific job duties). Becky has demonstrated superior performance with regard to these
criteria since she joined the Department in 1998 as the Administrative Assistant to the Chair.

Dr. Rich Crawford, who nominated Becky, has worked with her for several years in the Senior Design Projects
Program, first as a faculty advisor and currently as the director of the program. In her role as "surrogate mother" to
the students in the program, she helps by "answering questions about when assignments are due, providing
reimbursement for plant trips, assisting in purchases of prototyping materials, arranging audio visual equipment. The
list goes on much longer. In short, Becky is the person students turn to when they need help."

Congratulations to Becky Harrison-Ray, the Spring 2003 ME Staff Excellence Award winner!
The ceremony also paid tribute to Mechanical Engineering Staff who were
honored by the University for their contributions.
