JUDGING COMMITTEE
The Rewards and Recognition Committee coordinates the Award process. The Committee is comprised of two subcommittees: The Policy Committee and the Judging Committee.

The Judging Committee Evaluates nominations and selects award recipient. Comprised of two staff members (one of whom is the most recent award winner; the other is a selected person who is not qualified for this award, due to job title or other pre-qualification requirements), two faculty members (assigned by the Department Chair), and two students (one undergraduate and one graduate, volunteers solicited by the Undergraduate and Graduate Offices).

Evaluation of nominees will be strictly confined to the nomination packets presented to the Committee. Members may not introduce new information supporting or against any nominee. Members should bear in mind that there may be only one award recipient. Members should also remember that there is the possibility that there may be no award recipient for a given period of time.

In the Judging Committee secret ballot process, the committee members vote to choose (or not choose) an award winner based upon the packets. Criteria are listed on the Staff Rewards & Recognition Committee "About" page. The votes are collected and tallied by the Executive Assistant in a sealed ballot box. The Department Chair (or non-supporting designee appointed by the Chair of Policy Committee) votes in the event of a tie. Then the Executive Assistant announces to the Judging Committee the result of the vote.

Term Duration:   The previous year's award winner and volunteer members serve only one term.

Membership replacement:   In the event more than one vacancy exists on the Committee (leaving half of the positions open), the Chairperson or Department Executive Assistant will call for enough volunteers to make a quorum (at least four of the six positions filled).

Current Members of the Judging Committee (as of Spring 2007): Danielle Fournier, Kathryn Samec, Ted Aanstoos, Dr. Raul Longoria, John Hall, and Matthew Shanaberger.
