Paul A. Jensen
Professor Emeritus Paul Jensen served on The University of Texas at Austin faculty for 35 years, from 1967 to 2003. He supervised students for 20 P.hD. and over 40 masters degrees. Among his publications are three full-length books. Along with dozens of university committee assignments he was the Graduate Advisor and Associate Chair for the Mechanical Engineering Department. He has been a contributor to the profession of Operations Research in many ways included the elected positions of Board Member of the Operations Research Society of America and Vice President for Meetings of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). He was the General Chairman of the fall 1997 meeting of INFORMS. He received the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award from the University Graduate School, the Book of the Year Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers, and the first prize for the 2006 UT Innovative Instructional Technology Awards Program. In 2005 he was named a Fellow of INFORMS, and in 2007 he was awarded the 2007 INFORMS Prize for the Teaching of ORMS Practice.
Dr. Jensen developed the web site, www.ormm.net originally created to support the text Operations Research Models and Methods. The site describes models for an enormous variety of OR problems. It provides over 30 add-ins for Microsoft Excel that implement OR methods. He last updated his site on March 16, 2011. The web site remains open to the public and its contents are free.
Professor Jensen passed away peacefully on April 4, 2011. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Allen and Eleanor Jensen on August 27, 1936.
