Li Shi
Dr. Shi has served on the Cockrell School of Engineering faculty since 2002. He is a faculty member of the Thermal/Fluid Systems program, the Clean Energy Research Area, and the Micro-Nano Scale Engineering Research Area of the Mechanical Engineering Department. Dr. Shi is also a faculty fellow of the Center for Nano and Molecular Science and Technology in the University of Texas at Austin Texas Materials Institute (TMI). He is a member of the Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) Graduate Study Committee of TMI as well as the Graduate Study Committee of Department of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Shi's research aims to address technological challenges in energy, environment, and health care. His research group investigates novel materials especially nanomaterials from fundamental properties to device and system- level applications including thermoelectric energy harvesting and refrigeration, solar energy utilization, catalytic conversion, molecular sensors, microfluidic devices, biomedical imaging, and drug delivery. Dr. Shi received a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2003 for his work on thermal and thermoelectric characterization of nanotransistors and nanomaterials, and a Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research in 2004 for research of nanostructured thermoelectric materials. He is a recipient of an Outstanding Reviewer Award from the ASME Journal of Heat Transfer, which honors those reviewers who have made exemplary contributions to the Journal. He received the Myron L. Begeman Fellowship in Engineering at UT Austin in 2007.Selected Publications
