SSN (Social Security Number) Disclosure
As part of the UT SSN Remediation Project , we are required to disclose the reason for collecting SSNs in the instances where it is still required (usually employment, or reimbursement for goods or services, through APS form or similar instrument). In these instances, please refer to Sample Disclosure Notices . This rule is effective immediately. However, if you've already asked for and received a SSN for paperwork you currently have in process, you do not now need to provide notice to them.
Should you encounter someone who does not wish to disclose their SSN until actually employed (or arrives in person to campus), you will need to create a temporary SSN -- just as you would for a non-citizen-- and later make the correction.
As an employee of The University we are (every two years) required to complete the SSN Policy Acknowledgement . In addition, if you handle SSNs you must complete ITS' CW 502 SSN Training , which can be completed online.
All staff are required to submit the ME Social Security Number Remediation form . Your answers will help us determine the extent of SSN remediation needed so we can address any issues within the Department as quickly as possible.
