Staff Honors and Awards

This program was developed as a way to recognize and reward Mechanical Engineering Staff who have performed exceptional work and have shown consistent, dependable and well-executed job performance during the preceding twelve months.



Eligible Nominees:


ALL Mechanical Engineering employees who have met the following criteria for at least the previous consecutive twelve months:

  1. Hold a Classified Title;
  2. Hold a Regular Appointment (as currently defined by the University - see the Department Executive Assistant for clarification as needed);
  3. Belong to a M.E. Academic or Research Group that reports to the Department Chair.
  • The Executive Assistant and members of the Judging Committee are ineligible.
  • The Nominee's supervisor must verify that no job performance issues exist (or such issues have been resolved within the award period).


Eligible Nominators:


ALL Mechanical Engineering Faculty, Staff, and Students may make nominations (except for members of the Judging Committee). The nomination form must be accompanied by three letters of support. Nominators should not make nominee aware of his/her nomination.


Criteria:


Outstanding dedication, competence, conscientious performance, excellent customer service, or ingenuity. Must have had, or is having, a significant impact on the Department. Criteria for nomination includes:

  • Nominee has contributed to and demonstrated a commitment to the Department's core values and goals .
  • Nominee has significantly improved customer service or increased customer satisfaction for specific Departmental customers.
  • Nominee has significantly improved a work process or system, or has significantly increased the efficiency of an operation or unit.
  • Nominee has demonstrated an exceptional ability to foster collaboration, communication, and cooperation among colleagues and University constituents.
  • Nominee has performed at a level above and beyond normal job requirements.


Award:


There may be no more than one award recipient per award period. However, if there are no nominations or the Judging Committee does not choose a recipient, there is no requirement that an award be granted.

The award recipient receives:

  • Letter of acknowledgment from the Department Chair;
  • Mechanical Engineering Departmental plaque;
  • Mechanical Engineering Departmental Paperweight;
  • Check for $500 (subject to taxes);
  • Nomination to both the University-wide and College-wide staff awards (subject to approval by the Chair);
  • Recognition on Bulletin Board and Web.
