Departmental Admissions Requirements

  1. ME/ORIE Graduate Supplemental Application:
  2. Resume, CV or similar document: Include relevant job experience, awards, research experience and education. Resumes should be saved in PDF formatting. Title your document as follows: Last Name, First Name (EID) RESUME.pdf and e-mailed to our Graduate Admissions Coordinator at Prabhu Khalsa.

Test Scores and GPA Information

All test scores must be official and should be sent directly from the testing agency.
Code Number for UT Austin is 6882.

  1. GRE scores: Required of all incoming graduate applicants. Test scores are good for 5 years. We do not accept the GMAT.
  2. TOEFL scores: Required of all non-native speakers (please see exceptions to this requirement. Even if you are currently at a U.S. Institution working on your M.S. you must submit a TOEFL score. There are no exceptions to this requirement. IELTS can be used instead of the TOEFL . Please notify the ME Department of this when you begin your application process. TOEFL scores are good for two years.
  3. Minimum TOEFL requirements: 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based or 79 (iBT)
  4. Average GRE scores for ME/ORIE admits: The average GRE scores for recently admitted students are 550 (V), 770 (Q) and 4.5 (AW)
  5. Average GPA for ME/ORIE admits: The average GPA of recently admitted students is 3.62 on a 4.0 scale in upper-division or graduate work.
