E-Podium Instructions

Getting Started

  1. Connect your laptop to the VGA cable coming from the podium.

    • Make sure the laptop is set to output video signal to both the LCD screen and the VGA connection.

  2. Turn the projector ON using the button under the top of the podium

    • Note: There is a short warm-up cycle that the projector must go through. Also, the maximum resolution the projector is capable of is 800X600; if your laptop's display resolution is set higher than 800X600, the projector will display a black screen.

  3. Turn on the amplifier if needed, and adjust the volume knobs accordingly

Keys

A key is needed to access the door on the front of the podium. This is where the VCR and the amplifier reside. If you are only using the projector with a laptop, you do not need to do anything in here. On the other hand, if you plan to have sound and/or use the VCR, then you will need a key. Keys can be rented (faculty members are given a key to keep) at our office.

Projector

The ON and OFF buttons that control the projector are under the top of the podium. After turning the projector off, there is a 70 second cool-down period that the projector will go through before turning back on. If you push the ON button during these 70 seconds, the ON command will be stored and the projector will power back up when it is ready.

Note: Repeatedly and angrily pushing the ON and OFF buttons only resets the 70 second timer.

Details

1. VCR override in Logic Box
The logic box inside the podium controls the signal to the projector. When the VCR power is ON, the VCR will ALWAYS override the signal from the laptop, whether you intend to use the VCR or not. If you see a blue screen instead of the display from your computer, turn the VCR OFF.

2. Amplifier

To get sound through the in-ceiling speakers from either the VCR or computer, the amplifier needs to be turned ON. Once the amplifier is ON, adjust the Master Volume knob and either Input 1 (Computer) or Input 2 (VCR) volume knob. Note: If the sound is distorted, check to see that the master volume on the computer's volume control panel is not turned up too far. Rather, increase volume using the amplifier.
