Secure Shell Connections
For security reasons our ME Web Server will not allow regular Telnet sessions. Please use a Secure Shell Client instead. There are a number of free choices along with some really good commercial ones. BevoWare offers several choices for Macintosh and Windows for all students, faculty, and staff at no cost..

Windows
Free Programs:
  • FiSSH - FiSSH is a secure shell (SSH) and telnet client that runs under Windows 95/NT 4.0. MIT is distributing both binary and source code free of charge.
  • Putty - PuTTY is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Win32 platforms, along with an xterm terminal emulator.
  • TTSSH - TTSSH is a free SSH client for Windows. It is implemented as an extension DLL for Teraterm Pro. Teraterm Pro is a superb free terminal emulator/telnet client for Windows, and its source is available. TTSSH adds SSH capabilities to Teraterm Pro without sacrificing any of Teraterm's existing functionality. TTSSH is also free to download and use and its source is available too, with an open source/free software license.
  • Windows Alternatives to OpenSSH
Commercial Programs:
  • SecureCRT and SecureFX - SecureCRT combines the secure logon and data transfer capabilities of Secure Shell (SSH) with the reliability, usability and configurability of a proven Windows terminal emulator. SecureFX lets you choose between SFTP or FTP over an encrypted SSH2 connection for secure transfers, or standard FTP for non-secure transfers. It has a simple Explorer-like interface, so it's easy to learn and use.
  • Original SSH - SSH Secure Shell for Workstation contains precompiled clients for Unix and Windows platforms. The Unix-versions also include SSH server with a limitation of two maximum simultaneous connections. No source code is included.

The more data you store in your profile space, the longer it will take you to login/logoff. So, try and keep your profile size to a minimum. Also, on some days the network might be experiencing heavier traffic than usual and that might cause delays in logging in/logging off.
