Dr. Shaochen Chen elected Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

Shaochen Chen, Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, was elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Fellow Grade is the highest elected grade of membership within ASME, the attainment of which recognizes exceptional engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession.

Prof. Chen is an internationally recognized researcher in the field of nanomanufacturing and its applications for biomedical engineering and life sciences. He has made significant contributions in laser nanomanufacturing, surface-plasmon-assisted nanolithography, and laser stereolithography. His work has led to the development of biological scaffolds for tissue regeneration and functional biomedical micro and nano-devices as medical implants. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers, and has also contributed chapters and edited technical books.


He has received many awards, including the NSF CAREER award, SME Young Manufacturing Engineer award, ONR Young Investigator award, ASME Journal of Heat Transfer Outstanding Reviewer award, and AIAA/ASME Thermophysics Best Paper award. Dr. Chen is currently the Associate Editor of the ASME Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering and Journal of Biomedical Nanotechnology.
