Vaibhav Bahadur (VB), Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded a 2017 Google Faculty Research Award. This award is in the form of an unrestricted gift for research on novel methods to cool next generation data centers.

Through its Faculty Research Award Program, Google aims to recognize and support faculty at academic institutions who are pursuing cutting-edge research in areas of computer science, engineering, and related fields. The program is highly competitive, with only 15% of applicants chosen to receive funding.

VB’s research on thermal-fluids systems has numerous applications in energy production, thermal management and water. His research is currently supported by federal sources (NSF, NASA, ARL), nonprofit foundations (Welch, SPE, ACS PRF), and industry. Through this award, VB will be building long-term collaborative relationships with Google to address the energy challenges associated with next generation computing and big data.
