Researchers focused on Analytics and Probabilistic Modeling seek to quantify uncertainty and risk so that engineers, policy makers, and executives can make the best choice. They develop methodologies and processes to quantify and communicate risk in complex decision situations.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has extensive expertise in this domain. Faculty within both the Mechanical Engineering and Operations Research & Industrial Engineering programs apply analytics to problems ranging from modeling uncertainty in the performance of spacecraft to the design of the best policy to address climate change.
