Applying to the ME Undergraduate Program

Admission to the Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Program begins with an application to the University of Texas at Austin. The application process will vary slightly, depending on the type of student you are (incoming freshman, transfer, etc.).

  • Freshman - An entering freshman applicant is a graduate of an accredited high school who has not previously enrolled in a college or university. College coursework taken during high school or in the summer immediately following graduation and immediately preceding first-time fall enrollment at UT is allowed. The information on this page applies to U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents.
  • International student - Coming from outside the United States as either an freshman or transfer student.
  • Transfer from another institution - To be eligible for consideration, you must have earned a high school diploma, or its equivalent, and completed a minimum of 30 semester hours of transferable credit.
  • Transfer from another UT-Austin College / Major - Students need 24 hours in residence before they are eligible to transfer internally. The hours a student is currently enrolled count towards the 24. While there is not a minimum GPA for admission, GPA is considered when selecting candidates to fill the limited number of slots that occur every semester.
