Gateway Electives

You must obtain formal approval for your Career Gateway electives before enrolling in those courses. You will be required to take a minimum of nine hours of Career Gateway elective courses. Any combination of approved Career Gateway courses that equals nine or more hours of course work can be counted toward the Mechanical Engineering degree. If you are on the 06-08 catalog or beyond, you must complete and obtain the Business Foundations Certificate in order to use those courses towards this requirement.

Sit down with any ME faculty member and choose the courses that best suit your needs. Complete the Career Gateway Elective Form and submit it to the Undergraduate Office in ETC 5.224. You can update your Career Gateway Electives at any time, but any change will require you to get the form approved again. Some courses must get special approval from the Undergraduate Faculty Advisor, Dr. Harovel Wheat.

The following are courses that need special approval as Career Gateway electives. No more than three hours of may be used.

  • ME 1, 2, 379M: Topics in Mechanical Engineering
  • ME 325L: Cooperative Engineering
  • ME 362K: Readings in Engineering
  • ME 371K: Legal Aspects of Engineering Practice
  • XX XXX: Any Upper-Division course (not listed on the Approve Career Gateway Electives list.
