ME Undergraduate Registration
Be as flexible as possible when planning for registration each semester. Register for critical courses first and schedule electives and lesser priorities
later. If you check the course schedule and find the course you want is full, KEEP TRYING. And DO register -- even without the class of your
dreams you still need to establish a registration record in order to be eligible for add/drop access periods.
How to register for classes:
- Access the online Course Schedule.
- Check ROSE to see what bars there are to the upcoming semester(s) registration. You will have one ME advising bar for each semester. ROSE can also inform you of your registration times.
- Come to advising early! Check your email for advising dates and times. The sooner you get advised, the sooner we clear your advising bar!
- Don't forget to turn in your folder after being advised and mentored - that way we can lift your advising bar! We'll need your folder with your advising bar clearance form and signed mentor sheet.
- Check ROSE again to confirm that you have cleared all bars.
- Check the Course Schedule to make sure the classes are still open and double-check for time conflicts.
- Register for classes at your assigned time
Can I take courses pass/fail and still count them towards my degree?
As a Mechanical Engineering student you may take one class each from the Social Science and Fine Arts/Humanities Elective List on a pass/fail basis if you have completed 30 hours towardsyour degree. All other electives, requirements and all Engineering courses must be taken for a letter grade.
Can I take courses at another institution (like ACC) during my senior year?
This can be confusing . . . At least 24 of the last 30 semester hours to be counted toward an engineering degree must be taken in residence at UT. In addition, concurrent enrollment in another institution is not permitted during your final semester. If you should decide to take a course at another institution before your last semester, all transcripts for transferred work must be received and evaluated by the Office of Admissions before the "deadline to apply for graduation" (deadlines occur in mid-October, mid-March, & mid-July). If you enroll in a correspondence course, it too must be completed and a grade assigned before the deadline.
Can I repeat a course to improve my grade?
You may not repeat a course for a letter grade in which you have received a grade of "C" or better. However, you may repeat a course on a pass/fail basis to increase your knowledge in an area. Students earning below a "C" in a "C"-prerequisite course must repeat that course until a "C" or better is earned. All grades earned and hours attempted in a course will be used to compute your overall grade point average.
Can I register for courses at another college or university while taking courses at UT?
Yes, if you apply for and receive permission for concurrent enrollment through the Cockrell School of Engineering Student Affairs Office in ECJ 2.200. If you plan to take summer courses at another institution and you are not taking summer courses at UT, you do not need to apply for permission to register concurrently; however, it would be wise to check the Automated Transfer Equivalency system or contact the Admissions Office to be sure the course will transfer into UT.
