Welcome!
I first became interested in electrochemical energy systems when I conducted research on lithium batteries and supercapacitors while working as an undergraduate summer intern at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories. I found that working on these devices was not only interesting, but it allowed me to combine my aptitude and interest in engineering with the feeling that I was working on something important. Electrochemical energy systems help to provide society with the energy that is needed to raise standards of living while preserving the environment for future generations.
That first exposure inspired a career that has led me to several national laboratories, to industry, and, most recently, to teach and do research on what I consider to be some of the most interesting and pressing problems facing our society today.
I’m a native Texan who is thrilled to be a part of the Texas public university system, both in educating the next generation of engineers, and in helping our society prepare to face the grand energy challenge that will unfold in the coming decades.
It’s a pleasure to get to work with bright students and to do so in a town like Austin, which I love for its mix of Texas friendliness, urban cosmopolitanism, and high-tech savvy (not to mention its very mild winters!).
