A calorimetric method was used to measure the dielectric loss factors of molecular sieve 13X, and hydrophobic Dowex Optipore and UOP Molsiv High-silica adsorbents. These adsorbents were tested in dry state as well as saturated with alcohols, ketones, acetates, and aromatics. The loaded adsorbents exhibited loss factors an order of magnitude higher than the dry ones. The degree of enhancement of loss factor due to the presence of solvents seemed to depend primarily on the percentage of solvent adsorbed and, to a lesser degree, on the polarity of the solvent.
