Faculty Position in Surgical Robotics - University of Waterloo

The Department of Systems Design Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo invites applications for exceptional scholars and researchers for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Surgical Robotics / Robot-assisted surgeries and interventions.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Engineering or an equivalent discipline in a robotics topic and demonstrable experience, expertise or training in biomedical / medical applications, and preferably postdoctoral training and research experience, clinical or industrial experience after PhD. Applicants should have demonstrated research strength in the broad technical area of Surgical Robotics / Robot-assisted surgeries and interventions. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to robot design, minimally invasive robotics, ultrasound-guided and image-guided robotics, high-precision surgery, teleoperation, haptic-guided robotics, augmented dexterity, micro- and nanorobotics, and model-based computational methods in surgical robotics.

The applicant must be committed to establishing an interdisciplinary internationally recognized research program. Applicants must have excellent communication skills and a dedication to both teaching and research. Duties will also include teaching in the Biomedical Engineering and Systems Design Engineering programs covering core courses as well as electives in their area of research. They also include advising graduate and undergraduate students as well as administrative services at the university as well as the international research community.
