Kayla Kelley and Ralph Wiser, undergraduate seniors in the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering, have been chosen as the recipients of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Undergraduate Scholarship. Each student will receive a $10,000 award directed toward their fall and spring semester tuition and fees.

Kayla Kelley completed an internship at GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) in the summer of 2017 and worked on the Stability and Radiological Analysis team. She will be working full time for GE Power in their Edison Engineering Development Program after her graduation in May of 2019. Through the Edison program, she will do four 6-month rotations to various GE Power sites, including GEH.

Ralph Wiser previously interned at Los Alamos in Computational Fluid Dynamics, modeling for thermal management of nuclear sources. He completed the “Molten Salt Reactor Passive Safety Design Study” for his Bachelor of Science Honors thesis. Currently, Ralph is working at the Nuclear Engineering Teaching Lab and has been involved in developing software for a semi-autonomous gas sampling and tracer detection device. He will be attending a nuclear engineering graduate program in the autumn of 2019.
