Dr. Matt Campbell has recently been honored as a Hans Fischer Senior Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study at the Technische Universität München in Munich, Germany. The Hans Fischer Fellowship is awarded to “outstanding scientists … who intend to explore innovative, high-risk topics.” The Fellowship is named after Professor Hans Fischer (1881-1945) who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1930.
Hans Fischer Fellowship
The Fellowship is awarded to up to four individuals each year. Fellows will participate in university events and will be expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the university.
Fellows receive a €60,000 (approx. $80,000) stipend and an additional €100,000 (approx. $134,000) for travel, housing and research-related costs. Fellows are given freedom as to how they utilize these funds.
For his first period there, Dr. Campbell will be at TUM from June 1st to mid-December.
Advanced Computation
Dr. Campbell's area of research will be in the area of advanced computation. Specifically, he will work with the Visual Product Development Group in the Institute of Product Development at TUM. He will collaborate with Prof. Dr. Kristina Shea with the goal of defining a “fundamental computational theory to be used in developing a universal, open-source, shape and graph grammar synthesis system.”
