Dr. Richard Crawford
Dr. Richard H. Crawford, has been awarded the 2010 Ralph Coats Roe Award from the Mechanical Engineering Division of ASEE. The Ralph Coats Roe Award recognizes a mechanical engineering educator who is an outstanding teacher and has made a notable contribution to the profession. This award consists of a $10,000 cash award, award plaque, and travel expense reimbursement for attendance at the ASEE Annual conference. The award is funded by Burns and Roe, Inc., in honor of Ralph Coats Roe.

Training future educators
Since 1992, Dr. Crawford has been involved in the Design Technology and Engineering for All Children (DTEACh) program, which provides teachers with curricula and innovative approaches for teaching applied mathematics and science within the context of solving design problems. Begun in 1992 as an in-service teacher training program, DTEACh has helped teachers across Texas bring hands-on engineering materials, statics and structures, mechanisms, energy, and automation and control into their classrooms. Since 1998, DTEACh has trained more than 500 educators who have impacted an estimated 15,000 students in 60 Central Texas schools. Additionally, Dr. Crawford is one of three engineering faculty who have partnered with the highly acclaimed UTeach program to develop an engineering track, called UTeach Engineering, for training teachers of high school engineering courses. UTeach Engineering prepares university students and in-service teachers to teach innovative and exciting curricula that will allow their students to discover what engineering is, what engineers do and the role that engineering plays in shaping their world.
Richard Crawford's Credentials
Dr. Richard H. Crawford has been a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin since 1990. He received his B.S.(1982) in Mechanical Engineering from Louisiana State University, and his M.S.(1985) and Ph.D.(1989) from Purdue University. Dr. Crawford teaches mechanical engineering design and geometric modeling and developed a research program to investigate a broad range of topics in computer-aided mechanical design and design theory and methodology.
