Laser-Based Solutions for Battery Manufacturing | Goodenough Energy Storage Lecture

Thursday, November 14, 2024
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Location: EER 3.646

Speaker: Majid Abbasi

Abstract

With the rapid transition to electrification, new manufacturing challenges appear that require high-speed and low-defect approaches to mass produce batteries and e-mobility components. Laser-based processes for battery and e-mobility manufacturing may include electrode slurry drying, foil cutting, sintering, surface modification, texturing, similar and dissimilar welding, cleaning, marking, ceramic electrolyte sintering etc. which can provide quality, speed, and in some cases cost advantages in contrast with traditional methods. An overview of activities related to these processes at Coherent Corp. will be presented.
